Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about OverRider: what it does, whether traffic appears in Google Analytics, how proxies work, what the licence covers, and what the tool cannot do.
About the software
What is OverRider?
OverRider is a Windows desktop application that generates realistic website visits using real Chrome and Chromium browser engines. Each visit opens a genuine browser, loads your page, scrolls, moves the mouse and can click links before closing. It runs entirely on your own computer. See What is OverRider.
What operating systems does it support?
Windows 10 or later, 64-bit only. It needs 4 GB of RAM minimum with 8 GB recommended, and 1 GB of free disk space. There is no macOS or Linux version. See System requirements.
Does OverRider work when my computer is switched off?
No. All traffic originates from your computer. There is no cloud component and no server-side queue. When the application is closed or the machine is off, no traffic is generated. OverRider contacts overrider.io only to verify your licence.
Analytics
Will the traffic show up in Google Analytics?
Yes. OverRider drives a real browser, so your GA4 tag runs normally, provided Load JavaScript is enabled. Every visit is recorded as a new user, because each one starts with an empty cookie jar. See How OverRider traffic appears in Google Analytics.
Why does my returning users count stay at zero?
Every visit uses a fresh browser with no cookies, so analytics has no way to recognise a visitor it has seen before. OverRider cannot produce returning visitors, and no setting changes this.
Can I limit traffic to a specific country?
Yes, by filtering proxies by country in the proxy configuration. Analytics platforms determine geography from the IP address, so the proxy exit country is what controls reported location. Language and timezone settings alone do not change the reported country.
OverRider says visits succeeded but Google Analytics shows nothing. Why?
Most often one of three things: Load JavaScript is turned off, the target URL does not carry the GA4 tag, or the free proxies you are using sit in data-centre ranges that GA4 filters as bot traffic. Work through Traffic is not showing in Google Analytics.
Traffic and settings
Does OverRider improve my search engine rankings?
It is not guaranteed. OverRider does not directly manipulate search results — it does not perform searches or click your listing. Traffic sources labelled organic search only change how the visit is categorised in your own analytics; any indirect effect on ranking is outside OverRider’s control. See What OverRider does not do.
Can OverRider spread a set number of visits over several hours?
Not directly — there is no pacing setting. Use a Duration Based stop condition and control the rate with thread count and stay time. See Spread visits gradually over several hours.
How many simultaneous visits can I run?
The slider allows 1 to 50, but 10 is the safe ceiling for typical hardware and higher values must be unlocked deliberately. Allow roughly 5 to 8 simultaneous visits per 8 GB of RAM. Threads are shared across all running projects.
Is there a limit on how many projects I can create?
No. Projects are stored as individual files on your computer with no count limit. What limits you in practice is hardware, because threads are divided between running projects.
Are keywords matched to specific URLs?
No. Target URLs and referrers are chosen independently at random for each visit, so any keyword can appear with any URL. Use separate projects if you need that pairing.
Proxies
Are proxies included with the licence?
No paid proxies are included. OverRider includes an engine that scrapes and tests free public proxies, which typically achieve a 20 to 40 percent success rate. For consistent results, add your own authenticated residential proxies. See Proxies keep failing.
Why do so many proxies fail?
Free public proxies are unmaintained machines that disappear without warning. A proxy that worked twenty minutes ago may be gone now. This is inherent to free proxies, not a fault in OverRider.
Licensing
Do I get updates?
Yes. OverRider licences do not expire, and every purchase includes lifetime updates.
Can I move my licence to another computer?
Yes. Licences bind to a device identifier derived from your hardware. Email support@overrider.io with your licence key to request a reset. Reinstalling Windows or changing major hardware can also require a reset.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, a 7-day trial. It is tied to your computer and can only be started once per machine.
Does OverRider need an internet connection to work?
Yes, always. OverRider cannot generate traffic without an internet connection, since every visit is a real page load over the network. Separately, licence verification itself does not need to succeed online every single time: once it has succeeded at least once on a machine, that machine keeps passing licence checks even if it later cannot reach our server, with no time limit on that. This only covers the licence check — it does not mean traffic can be generated offline.
